Warhost Update – Summer 2025

Warhost Update – Summer 2025

It's been a little quiet on the Warhost front for the first half of the year, and we wanted to take a moment to update you all on where things stand—and where we're heading next.

As many of you will know, Andy recently joined Wargames Atlantic, which understandably slowed things down for a while. At the same time, the launch of The Barons' War: Second Edition took off in a bigger way than any of us anticipated, demanding more of our time and attention than we'd originally planned.

But now, with a bit more breathing room, we're diving back into the world of Warhost with renewed energy and focus.

Work is well underway on our upcoming Dwarf range, and we're also developing new releases for both the Orcs and Elves. We're thrilled to announce that all of the currently released miniatures have been painted, with the incredibly talented Darren Linington putting the final touches on the Orc Fanatics and the Elf Heavy Cavalry Command. They look fantastic, as I am sure you will agree, as shown in the images shared here.

We've been busy behind the scenes developing the lore of elemental magic. In the early days, the leaders of the four elemental paths—Fire, Water, Earth, and Air—were influential Elven mages. However, time changes everything. Today, only one of these paths remains under Elven control, as different peoples and cultures have claimed the others. Some believe that this shift in magical power contributed to the decline of Elven influence, explaining their significant losses during the Orc Wars and their eventual retreat behind the walls of their secret city.

This story is an area of the setting that we are particularly excited to expand upon, and it will play a more prominent role in Warhost's future. We are currently working with Marco on concept designs for all four mages; more information on this will be shared at a later date.

We're also excited to share that we'll be bringing a participation game of Warhost to PeachyCon this August. It will likely be the same game setup we ran at Salute 2025, which was a great success and a brilliant way to introduce more players to the fantasy side of The Barons' War universe.

If you're new to The Barons' War and have just discovered Warhost, all you need to get started is a copy of the Warhost supplement to add to your Barons' War rulebook. It's compatible with both version one and second edition of the rules and is the perfect entry point for bringing magic, monsters, and gritty fantasy to your tabletop.

We'd love to see your painted warbands and hear about your experiences playing Warhost either directly via email or in the Hobday & Hicks Facebook group. As always, we're happy to answer any questions you might have, so don't hesitate to reach out!

More to come soon, and thanks for sticking with us on this journey!

— Andy & Paul
